Agarest Senki Massacred by Anime Haters

Xbox 360 and PS3 breeding ero-RPG Agarest Senki, to be known as Agarest: Generations of War in its European incarnation, clearly had too much in the way of beautiful anime art for the publisher, who decided to change it to something unrecognisably manly.

The protagonist as he originally appeared:

The Japanese version was rated a C (15+) on Cero’s scale, being packed full of banana fellatio and bikini service, whereas the European cover here is given a PEGI “12” rating, so it seems probable the game has been completely Bowldlerised, with all the juicy banana licking scenes removed.

However, a visit to the game’s homepage reveals that for the past several months they have had this charming image as their header:

“COMING soon” indeed.

It seems nothing will disavow international publishers of the notion that games including creepy Chinese cartoons need to be given manful CG art, as seen recently in CG Tales and international Star Ocean localisations, though it is clear this only serves to alienate actual anime and JRPG fans, whilst having questionable impact on the store-going general public…

A Virtual Relationship with Azunyan

3dcg-azunyan.jpg

One otaku seems so taken with K-ON!’s nekomimi moe icon Azusa Nakano that he has created a virtual version of her for purposes we are left to worriedly guess at:

The technology used to create this seems to have a promising future… Poor Azunyan does not, however.

Bayonetta Gets One-Handed Onanism Mode

bayonetta.jpg

Not long before the release of sexy witch fighting game Bayonetta, maker Platinum Games has announced a special “very easy” mode which allows players to do most in-game fighting with but one hand.

With the “automatic”  function, players need only press a few buttons to inflict damage on opponents, whilst lascivious witch Bayonetta jumps around and does all of the taxing business of playing the game.

“Automatic can be used on Easy and Very Easy difficulties, and leaves the most complex controls up to the CPU,” says an official with Platinum.

Ingeniously, this frees up the player’s other hand (and much of their active concentration) for other tasks, and ensures players will be able to fully appreciate the cheeky British witch’s moves:

Bayonetta also capitalizes on particular fetishes, including glasses and hair, and rather overdone British sauciness.

The game itself is a supernatural action game based firmly around charmingly bespectacled witch Bayonetta; she wears a suit of her own hair which can be seen artfully leaving her body in order to deliver special attacks, and can transform as she desires in battle, as demonstrated in the video above.

bayonetta_oshiri.jpg

Developed by the same studio that created cartoonish action game Viewtiful Joe, many of the same game elements are found in Bayonetta, such as fighting styles reminiscent of a tokusatsu-style television series and a lead character that facetiously incites her enemies.

The game will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with a Japanese release in October and a release to American consoles in January 2010.

The stunning trailer can be seen below:

With so much of the skill required for such a game eliminated by this mode, gamers are left to ponder just what it is they are supposed to be doing whilst the game plays itself…

Hatsune Miku’s First Live Performance!

hatsune-miku-on-stage.jpg

Virtual idol Hatsune Miku has given her first live performance, being rapturously received by an audience of 25,000.

The performance was held at major anime music event Animelo Summer Live:

The preview for Black Rock Shooter’s upcoming anime adaptation was also shown…

Songs included classics MikuMiku ni Shite Ageru and Black Rock Shooter:

Added to her chart-topping albums and singles, this certainly makes Miku a formidable force.

2ch is generally scathing of such a performance by a virtual personage, but clearly those in attendance were delighted.

The distinction between real and virtual idols hardly seems tenable when we consider the almost complete fabrication which goes into creating a traditional 3D idol, with painstaking application of advertising, image management, dubbing, makeup, plastic surgery, and Photoshop enhancement all ensuring the end result bears very little resemblance to the “real” person.

Possibly this is set to become merely a question of visual style…

“Deep in the forest lived Billy and his charming companions. They peacefully honed their bodies and listened to music there. But a wave of development came upon the forests. One who would turn all to road. ‘Kagamine Rin’ had come. Billy must stop the construction before all is turned to road…”

Kudo Riding

Loli Noumi Kudryavka, of longed for KyoAni anime candidate eroge Little Busters is here given a healthy workout atop a riding machine.

A version with voicing has been prepared to aid concentration:

Should a video stall, refreshing the page normally helps. Even on high speed connections in metropolitan Tokyo, Nico’s inadequate infrastructure fails frequently.

Should the videos fall foul of porn hawker Nico’s nonsensical rules, they will be mirrored locally.

K-ON! 3D Nendoroids Sing “Don’t Say ‘Lazy’”

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

The girls of K-ON! are transformed into Nendoroid to sing the series signature tune “Don’t say ‘lazy’” in this impressive 3DCG MAD.

Don’t_say_“lazy”【ねんどろいど】 (Nendoroid)

The video is deservedly quite popular on Nico, despite the Nendo’s occasional scary “lifeless” gaze popping up at times.

Look for the girls laying on the grass near the end, especially shut-eyed Nendo Tsumugi…

Illusion Strikes Back at Feminists…

sefi-11.jpg

Rapelay maker Illusion recently announced its latest game, Yuusha Kara wa Nigerarenai. The latest gameplay information reveals something curious about the title, and most probably connected to the censorship mania the industry is currently gripped by…

yuusha-kara-wa-nigerarenai-4_0.jpg

This diagram displays the gameflow. The player is the effete looking male demon.

1. World Map

2. Level Up

3. Technique Creation

4. Battle!

Winning the battle gives the reward of sex. Losing means being raped by the heroes, resulting in humiliating level loss.

This is apparently the point of the game – instead of hunting down women and raping them as in previous titles such as Rapelay and Battle Raper, the male protagonist is now being hunted down by a variety of female perverts intent on absorbing his essential essence, what is called in Japanese “gyaku-rape,” reverse rape.

It seems Illusion have cunningly observed that their feminist adversaries do not care one jot about men being raped, which should make this immune to criticism?

The game itself admittedly looks awful. Here you can see battles are actually fought as “posing battles,” explaining their posing engine

Possibly the new restrictions do not allow any violence at all in eroge, meaning they also had to resort to this frankly ridiculous expedient?

Halo Legends Anime Trailer Promises Quality

halo-romance.jpg

The spectacular trailer to the newly announced Halo anime has been unveiled, and is visible below:

The initial response seems to be that this it is spectacularly dire, having 2D sections reminiscent of an elderly mecha anime and 3D sections looking scarcely better than the actual game, with the additional inclusion of inexplicable flowery scenes…

Halo Anime Due

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

halo-anime-cg.jpg

Microsoft has announced that it will be releasing an anime based on the Halo franchise, employing some of the top names in the anime industry.

The five companies involved in the actual production are Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio4°C, and Toei Animation. The director will be Shinji Aramaki, of Appleseed fame.

The anime will be released on DVD and online (doubtless through Xbox Live) in early 2010.

It is not clear precisely what kind of visual style the production will adopt, but given the subject matter, and involvement of Aramaki, 3D CG seems a likely and appropriate choice…
