UN Demands Hentai Ban

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

sakana-tentacle-raep.jpg

The UN has told Japan it must ban adult games and erotic manga featuring themes of rape, calling Japan’s protection of fictional women from fictional rape “inadequate.”

The demands come by way of the UN’s radical feminist arm, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, or CEDAW. Extreme feminist pressure group Equality Now previously vowed to make them seek such a ban, and it seems CEDAW happily complied.

Calling Japan’s treatment of women “inadequate” and “regrettable,” CEDAW formally demanded Japan end “human rights violations” against women by banning games and manga featuring themes of “rape and sexual violence.” It is not clear whether they extend their demands to anime, AV or literature, though this seems likely.

The suggestion that fictional works such as manga serve to promote sexual violence is entirely unproven; it is notable that Japan has some of the lowest rates of crime and sexual violence in the world, and yet some of the most abundant pornography, much of which deals with such themes.

This is of course undoubtedly tied to the intervention of busybody international feminist groups in Japanese politics after the Rapelay scandal…

New Law Allows Husbands to Starve Wives Who Refuse Sex

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

pet-slave.jpg

A new Afghan law allows men to withhold food from recalcitrant wives if they refuse to have sex.

The law, a sop to the nation’s Shia minority, originally legalised rape within marriage, forcing women to have sex with their husbands at least once every four days, as well as eliminating the need for a wife to actually consent to sex.

Progressive elements within the nation and all civilised nations without it condemned it as being barbarously oppressive, and the Afghan president relented and opted to revise the law.

However, the revised version, which quietly passed into law, is seen as almost as bad, as it allows a husband to starve his female slave if she has the temerity to refuse his lusts, and also requires the woman to have permission from her husband in order to work.

Afghanistan’s western puppet president was supposed to be promoting civilisation and development, but observers say he is attempting to court Islamist conservatives in order to assure his election victory.

MS Bans Indie Dating Game for “Sexual Violence”

even-so-i-love-you.jpg

Microsoft has banned a Japanese made dating game from its own Xbox Live “Indie Games” program for a romantic scene in which a girl is pushed onto the ground, showing her pantsu in the process. Microsoft calls this scene “reminiscent of sexual violence,” and so banned the game.

The game in question, それでも、私は愛している / Sore de mo, Watashi wa Aishiteru (“Even So, I Love You”), a short visual novel depicting a school romance, was released onto Microsoft’s Xbox Live distribution service “Indie Games” as an independently developed doujin title.

Not long after release, distribution was suspended and the developer was ordered to stop distribution of the game or have it deleted from the system and have his account terminated.

He managed to extract an explanation from Microsoft’s EU support (US support apparently never bothered informing him of the reasons) regarding the problems with the title:

Event scenes had the following issues:

A girl being grabbed.

A girl being pushed over.

Exposure of underwear.

These are condemned as “reminiscent of sexual violence,” or, in other words, it is a rape scene in the eyes of MS.

You can see the likely scene at issue below, though you will have to excuse the creepy otaku voiceover:

As these scenes are routine in such games in Japan (and indeed in games, movies and so on in the west), he asked if he could not restrict distribution to Japan only (the game is in Japanese only), but was merely told he must suspend distribution or be banned completely from the service (a problem for a publisher who releases other games as he does).

Based on the information at his command, he suspects that a certain feminist inspired furore in the UK has caused Microsoft to become incredibly strict.

The maker is currently working on providing a censored version with no scenes of schoolgirl tipping, which may allow it to resume distribution.

Of course, scenes of bloody carnage perpetrated against both men and women (but not involving anything so depraved as pantsu) are the staple of most major Xbox games, so the fairness of this decision seems questionable…

Rapist Charges Victim: “She Didn’t Tell Me She Was HIV+!”

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

aria-akira-ferrari-condom-mouth-hold.jpg

A man is pressing charges against a woman he is accused of raping, accusing her of not informing him she had HIV.

The man apparently had sex with the woman at his residence in Helsingborg, Sweden, after the pair took a taxi there.

She alleges he lured her back to his apartment with a promise to give her the fare, then raped her. She allegedly begged him to use a condom, but he refused, and only relented and released her when she told him her children were waiting for her.

He alleges she was a prostitute who he drunkenly paid the equivalent of $500 to have sex with, and only pressed charges against him to avoid charges stemming from potentially having infected him with HIV, as she was HIV positive.

The man has not been confirmed as being infected.

Via Helsingborgs Dagblad.

Sweden has some of the higher levels of rape in the developed world, which can either be interpreted as evidence it is a degenerate nation of brutes, a nation where justice for women is taken seriously, or one were men have no chance at all against the allegations of women in court…

Japanese Men Spurn “Carnivorous” Women, Hunt Virgins

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

bashful-bride.jpg

A survey of Japanese men reveals that most spurn sexually assertive women, with many thought instead to hanker after the mythical innocent and passive Japanese maidens of legend.

The survey, conducted by a marriage consultation agency, asked what men thought of “carnivorous” women, women who are prepared to take an active role in finding sexual partners, as opposed to the “herbivorous” men the Japanese mass media increasingly frets about.

The number one response was “depressing” with 27%. Next was “I’d like to socialise with one” with 22%. However, a meagre 3% wanted to marry one, 9% thought them “lascivious” and a further 6% found them irritating.

A variety of other responses were registered, and in total 53% of respondents held negative opinions of such assertive women.

A man surveyed explains that men seek “virginal” women, rather than ones who think often of men: “However old she is, unfortunately men just want an innocent woman.”

It might be hoped that the half of men willing to tolerate assertive women are the ever more common and ever less assertive “herbivorous” men, but the evidence seems not to support this

Housewife Charges Husband $4 for Lunchbox, $50 for Sex

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

rental-wife.jpg

“It’s strange for a career housewife to be providing her services for free” – under this reasoning one married couple have taken their relationship to a new level, a commercial one.

Each evening the husband finds a note in the kitchen, “Bento – Needed / Not Needed,” and if circling “needed” he must leave ¥400 on the table as payment for the morning’s bento (a bento generally costs ¥300-500 at a convenience store).

The husband, a 48-year-old salaryman, was told one day by his 42-year-old unemployed wife “It’s strange for a career housewife to be providing her services for free – from tomorrow the lunch bento will need to be paid for,” and they later formalised the arrangement with a contract. She did not however opt to charge their son for his bento.

The husband claims his marriage improved after the deal: “Now we spend more time together on weekends,” though he does concede he was embarrassed at first, when co-workers would say such things as “Ah, your lovely wife prepared that by hand for you didn’t she? How nice.”

She also apparently charges him ¥5,000 for the privilege of having sex with her.

However, the arrangement is not one of commercial equality – the wife actually controls the husband’s salary, a common arrangement in Japan, and generously lets him have ¥50,000 of his own salary as an allowance to spend freely, out of which he must pay her to make him his bento, and presumably cover his sexual expenses…

Business commentators describe this “B2B marriage” as “win-win.”

2ch responds thus:

“What, is his wife a prostitute?”

“Don’t marry!”

“If you’re going to do this the husband should be getting his own wages.”

“Doing this with an allowance is absolute madness…”

“Of course, he gets to control his salary, right? At least half, right?”

“The bento may be ok, but where sex is concerned, at ¥5,000 going to a brothel has better cost performance characteristics.”

“¥400? Our company cafeteria is cheaper…”

“At ¥5,000 I’d sooner go get a handjob in a booth somewhere for ¥3,000…”

“If mine came out with this, I’d throw her into the street.”

“Just why would you get married?”

“Is she actually paying for the ingredients herself?”

“What would a child think seeing these parents?”

“Divorce, now!”

“At least take into account market conditions!

Equality Now Demands UN Hentai Ban

Friday, July 24th, 2009

maria-sama-bondage-mania.jpg

Feminist crusader group Equality Now’s latest moralist histrionics take the form of a strongly worded letter to the UN accusing Japan of being rape heaven, and demanding a ban on hentai and other forms of pornography “harmful to women.”

The letter tells the UN’s feminist arm CEDAW, the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women, to tell Japan in no uncertain terms that it is a bad country which is oppressing women, and there are a number of laws it must enact in order to appease American feminists.

Here is the summary of their rather lengthy screed, which can be read in full here (PDF version):

Japan is a nation which accepts hentai. This encourages rape so hentai must be banned.

Japan is nation where courts let rapists go free with a slap on the wrist. Sentences must be increased.

Japanese judges violate the rights of women by taking into account whether they resisted their “rape.” Women should not have to resist sex to be able to call it rape.

Evil misogynists have waged a “hate mail” campaign against us. We were sent some AV which we thought was child porn involving “girl-children”, but Japanese police experts on pubic hair told us it wasn’t, so they must all be misogynists.

Rapelay was withdrawn from sale, the EOCS banned all fetishes, and some companies have banned foreigners from their websites. This is not enough. The Japanese government must ban everything we object to and make it all illegal.

The UN must tell the Japanese to do as we direct.

It is no wonder this group has attracted “unprecedented” criticism for its unremitting attacks on freedom of speech.

You can convey your thoughts on their wanton attacks on visual culture on their website.

Perhaps being bombarded with criticism in the same way they bombard politicians in other countries with unsolicited mail is a new experience for them, hence their displeasure.

Equality Now: “Unprecedented” Criticism Over Eroge Ban

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

genmukan-by-tony.jpg

Pro-censorship feminist group Equality Now’s latest crusade against freedom of expression took the form of an attack on Japan’s eroge industry, causing the industry to censor itself in a futile effort to dissuade politicians from harassing it any further; however, the group itself admits to receiving “unprecedented” criticism for its meddling, which it characterises as “hate mail”.

It appears the reaction to the group’s campaign has been most unfavourable, so much so that it has desperately attempted to refute the criticism by its usual expedient of failing to present any statistics or factual evidence in support of its claims, save the specious propaganda other feminist groups frequently publish.

The group’s whimpering response can be read below:

Since launching Women’s Action 33.1 calling for the withdrawal of RapeLay, a rape simulator game produced and sold in Japan, and for the Japanese government to effectively address violence and discrimination against women, Equality Now has been inundated with responses.

Many have been positive and have come from women and men in Japan and around the world in support of the Action. Some have spoken about their own experiences and the negative impact they feel this form of hentai is having on women and girls, who have become increasingly targeted with sexual harassment.

Sadly, however, Equality Now has also received an unprecedented amount of hate mail, including death and bomb threats. Many of these messages have referred to statistics of rape in Japan that are reportedly far lower than in the U.S. for example [such as these].

Equality Now does not believe it serves any purpose to excuse crimes in one country by pointing out that there are more in another.

In addition, women’s rights activists in Japan inform us that the numbers of reported rapes are not likely to reflect the actual incidents of rape in Japan. It is also difficult for women in Japan to report rape because victims have little faith in the criminal justice system and are worried about the stigma attached to rape.

This was also reflected by the United Nations Committee that monitors implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

When examining the report of the Japanese government in 2003, the Committee expressed concern about “the prevalence of violence against women and girls and about women’s apparent reluctance to seek assistance from existing public institutions.” The Committee also noted that “the penalty for rape is relatively lenient.”

The fact that there are women-only carriages on Japanese commuter trains due to the high prevalence of groping and sexual harassment faced by women in Japan also highlights the need for the government to actively address violence against women.

Banning extreme computer simulator games that promote sexual violence and harassment such as RapeLay would be a step in this direction.

A large portion of the hate mail and threats we received not only underlines the profound misogyny that is prevalent among consumers of such games, many also conflated Equality Now’s campaign to the opposition to sex. Rape and sexual harassment are forms of violence against women and girls and can never be equated with consensual sex.

We ask that you continue to write to Illusion Software asking it to fully withdraw RapeLay [sic: RapeLay has already been withdrawn] and all other similar titles and to Amazon which also sells similar games promoting the rape, sexual assault, stalking and molestation of women and girls. Please also write to the Japanese government urging it to comply with its international obligations under CEDAW.

You may also find it useful to contact Equality Now directly about their continued attacks on freedom of speech in Japan and elsewhere.

You are of course invited to explore the scant validity of their specious claims in the comments below.

“Weak Men & Strong Women Mean 25% Will Never Marry”

Friday, July 17th, 2009

happy-wedding-couple.jpg

Weak, effete men and the improved social position of women in recent years are held to be amongst the reasons that a quarter of Japanese may soon pass their entire lives without ever marrying.

The latest trend amongst unmarried Japanese is “婚活 / konkatsu”, an abbreviation formed from the words “kekkon” and “katsudou”, meaning marriage and activity respectively.

Such activities, now well in vogue, try to create opportunities for meetings between the sexes for the ever increasing population of aging and poorly connected Japanese aspiring to matrimonial bliss, as it seems many feel an overwhelming social pressure to pursue marriage, and in yet in the normal course of their lives are never to able to court potential paramours.

A recent work by a sociologist and a journalist, “Age of ‘Konkatsu’”, attempts to analyse this trend, and presents findings which may disturb those Japanese keen to pursue married life.

Until now, the proportion of people in their fifties who remain unmarried their entire lives has stood at 16% for men, and 7% for women, however this is estimated to increase to 25% never marrying as the younger non-marrying generations age.

Factors cited in this trend are increasing numbers of passive men fearful of rejection, and increasing numbers of women with greater social stature, and less time to meet potential suitors. The work is presumably too circumspect to mention the economic expectations of women as a factor.

As a result, active attempts to find a spouse are said to be essential – it is the “Age of Konkatsu,” if this research is to be believed.

Other researchers have stated that now is Japan’s last hope before an irreversible demographic death spiral grips the nation, as the few children of mostly childless couples themselves proceed to have even fewer children, who in their turn may have even fewer children…

Man Arrested for Sharing Rapelay

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

rapelay.jpg

Japanese police have arrested a man for sharing a rape game on P2P networks, thought to be Rapelay, though they claim to be motivated by his sharing of an uncensored version of the game.

Kyoto police’s high tech crimes unit, who have a reputation for attacking P2P, arrested the Kawasaki resident, a 38-year-old brothel employee, on charges of distributing indecent material.

He is accused of using the “Share” anonymous P2P network to distribute “a game depicting sexual violence, with the mosaic removed,” charges which he denies, saying “I downloaded it, but I wasn’t sharing it.”

The ostensible reason for his arrest was the lack of censorship on the game.

Although the title is not specified, an “uncensored” version would likely be either an international release or a hacked 3D game, such as Rapelay, and reports speak of a game involving molesting women on a train

Japan’s farcical laws against pornography, a holdover from General MacArthur’s efforts to impose good Christian morals on the deviant nation, require genitals to be hidden in most adult material, usually accomplished by way of the hated mosaic or censor bar.

The ambiguous and selectively enforced rules on this appear mostly to be used to keep unruly or unlucky producers and viewers in line, and are routinely flouted…

Via Jiji.

Observers will of course be wondering whether this is related to efforts crack down on the evils of eroge, efforts to crack down on the evils of P2P, or efforts to crack down on the evils of unmosaiced sex
