Haruhi author Nagaru Tanigawa has finally started work on the long anticipated but hugely delayed (as below) “Suzumiya Haruhi no Kyougaku / The Shock of Haruhi Suzumiya” light novel, the first in many years.
Previous announcements relating to the title, once due in 2007, always turned out to be lengthy delays, to the point that the once popular series appeared to have been abandoned, but this seems not to be the case now, as in a recent edition of The Sneaker he is described as being in the process of readying the novel.
Whilst it seems for all intents and purposes the Haruhi franchise is finished after having been driven into ground, it will be interesting to see whether Tanigawa manages a worthy continuation after so long a hiatus.
There is of course the intriguing possibility that he long ago succumbed to writer’s block or totally lost interest in the series, and only now is finally having his arm twisted into finishing it, a possibility which does not bode well for the quality of future installments…
Though the sudden ending of To Love-Ru was not wholly surprising, the nature of the ending is surprising…
Fans expecting spoilers and an epic conclusion to almost 20 volumes worth of oppai manga from the ending scene, below, will be sorely disappointed:

It seems a classic half-baked “To Be Continued… ?” ending devoid of any real conclusion is all the author could muster, perhaps unsurprising considering the endless repetition of falling bikini and tentacle raep scenes which has populated the title.
NiseMIDI Doro no Kai’s (the circle name of the well known artist Ishikei) main Comiket 76 offering, MikanAL, is likely among the more sought out and lusted after books to come from the event, featuring To Love-Ru’s youthful imouto Yuuki Mikan in Ishikei’s distinctive style.
Sankaku Complex’s own Quen has turned his expert hand to a translation of the short book as a send-off for the recently cancelled To Love-Ru series – hopefully bereaved fans can find at least a little solace amongst the pages of yet another Ishikei doujinshi.
The entire doujinshi can be read here on the Channel, in what is almost certainly the best quality scan available of the book online so far.
Some may find the Channel’s translation interface confusing – remember to click on the image to turn the transparent mouseover boxes on or off.
Unfortunately a full scanlation was not doable, so anyone with the requisite image editing skills may feel free to typeset the pages properly, or use the translation as basis for their own scanlation.

Issue 39 of Shounen Jump magazine has confirmed that Yabuki Kentarou’s tentacle laced alien harem manga To Love-Ru will end next month ending all speculations.
The last chapter will be featured in the August 31st issue of Jump.
While the magazine has said that the decision to end the series was planned by the creators, it is rumoured that the real reason was the lack of fresh storyline, in turn leading to plummeting ratings.
Shueisha has not censored the manga in the Tankouban version, but even the ero-manga upgrades the series is famed for have failed to lift the manga back to its initial success, which has seen TV and OVA anime adaptations.
Top alien-girl-falls-in-love-with-boy, alien-girl-gets-raeped-by-tentacles shonen series To Love-Ru will soon be ending its serialization in Shonen Jump, according to credible rumours on 2ch.
The spectre of cancellation had long hung over the series, and recently the story had been pointing towards signs of coming to a conclusion, making the news seem all too likely to be legitimate.
The initial source of the cancellation talk came from a post on a 2ch thread, “Jump Ending Survival Race”, by a poster nicknamed Bare-shi (Master Reveal), known for supplying 2ch with accurate, apparently insider knowledge on the cancellations of Jump series.
On Aug. 24th, he announced the current status of To Love-Ru as:
とらoutらしい (Seems like it’s ‘To Out’)
Fans naturally would enjoy some more concrete information on the matter, but given the problems the series has had with the Jump Reader’s Popularity polls, the oft-repeated talk of the show’s impending cancellation and that the story seems to be heading toward a conclusion, it is not too much of a stretch to assume that the modern-day Urusei Yatsura will indeed be ending soon.

Major otaku stores (Tora no Ana, Melonbooks, etc.) frequently display lists of their Top 10 bestselling doujinshi, but the most watched rankings are always the ones in the weeks following Comiket.
As Comiket 76 ended last week, there is the interesting opportunity to inspect these doujinshi rankings from three major Akihabara shops – Tora no Ana, Messe Sanoh and Melonbooks.
These rankings come via Akiba Hobby, which regularly keeps weekly records of such rankings.
These lists only apply to a specific brick and mortar store’s inventory (i.e., online sales excluded), and due to the underground nature of doujinshi publishing and the vagaries of the consignment system typically used to sell the books in these stores a huge discrepancy is obvious between the different store’s rankings, despite their relative proximity to each other.
Nonetheless, each of these stores have hundreds of different titles on hand at any given time, and their common customer base made up of the denizens of Akiba means these rankings should give some insight into C76 doujinshi are proving to be among the most popular now that all doujin stores are well stocked with books from the event.
