The latest in the interminable succession of novelty maid cafés to open in Akihabara is “Mononopu,” a café and bar whose theme is based on the sengoku jidai period, and whose “sengoku meido” waitresses wear a incongruous mix of maid outfits, kimono, and armour and swords.
The café explains its existence thus: “Lord Moeda Nobunaga has taken princesses from all over the empire to use as hostages, and they are being made to earn their keep greeting patrons!”
A complex system of ranks and privileges for returning patrons also recreates a suitably feudal atmosphere.
The establishment does however fail to explain why its hostage princesses are wearing random bits of armour and weaponry…
